This makes it possible to measure the metabolic chemistry of individual cells and embryos without damaging the sample. There are two main areas of application: reproductive medicine, where embryos will in the future be evaluated without invasive procedures, and life sciences research.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An EPFL spin-off based in the Lausanne Innovation Park, with nine employees. On the advisory board: Kurt W\u00fcthrich, Nobel Prize laureate in Chemistry for NMR spectroscopy. The core patent has been granted in the EU, Japan, China, the U.S., and Israel. In April 2025, Annaida completed a Pre-Series A funding round, followed in June 2026 by certification under ISO 13485, the standard for medical devices.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anyone conducting measurements on a micro scale needs reference values from a top-of-the-line instrument. That is why the first major laboratory purchase was scheduled for 2025: a 400-MHz NMR spectrometer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Starting Point<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For a company with nine employees, this isn\u2019t the kind of investment you make on the side. Annaida is funded through <strong>financing rounds<\/strong>, not through ongoing cash flow. Every franc spent on hardware is money that\u2019s not going toward development\u2014and thus toward the very milestones against which the next funding round will be judged. A direct purchase would have tied up a significant portion of the available funds all at once. There was no time pressure\u2014no delivery date, no deadline.
